The Met: Live in HD is Available Through Fathom Entertainment in Approximately 700 Theatres Nationwide

New York, NY and Denver – April 30, 2025  —The Metropolitan Opera’s 2024–25 Live in HD season continues with a new production of Strauss’s Salome on Saturday, May 17, at 1:00PM ET.

Fathom Entertainment, the leading specialty distributor of content to theatrical partners worldwide, will also present two encores of Salome on Wednesday, May 21, at 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM local time.

Tickets for Salome are now on sale at approximately 700 participating U.S. theatre locations. To purchase tickets for Salome, please visit the Fathom Entertainment website or participating theatre box offices (participating theatres are subject to change).

Soprano Elza van den Heever stars in the title role, alongside baritone Peter Mattei as Jochanaan in the company’s first new production of the opera in more than 20 years. In his Met debut, director Claus Guth leads a Victorian-era production that explores societal tension and modern psychological themes. “We were inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, which has this same kind of atmosphere—normal people behaving normally in the daytime, but you’d never expect the parallel life they lead at night,” the director says.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Met’s Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, conducts the one-act tragedy for his first time at the Met. Mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung is Herodias, alongside tenor Gerhard Siegel as Herod and tenor Piotr Buszewski as Narraboth.

The creative team for Guth’s production includes set designer Etienne Pluss, costume designer Ursula Kudrna, lighting designer Olaf Freese, choreographer Sommer Ulrickson, and dramaturg Yvonne Gebauer, all making their company debuts. Projection design is by rocafilm/Roland Horvath.

Gary Halvorson will direct the Live in HD presentation, and mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina will host the transmission, sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes content and interviews during the intermission. Akhmetshina will star in the upcoming transmission of Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

Content Advisory: Salome contains adult themes and disturbing imagery.
